Burger King Keeps Viral Ad Campaigns Coming
How many of you out there have a Facebook account? Odds are that you do or someone that you know does. So with Facebook having millions upon millions of members and more and more people joining every single day. Coming up with a clever ad campaign that you can put out there on Facebook is a very viral and relatively easy way to get the word out about your product. I was recently exposed to one of the more clever advertisements I have seen in a long time.
It actually comes from a big name company that has been taking a more viral and smaller tactic lately with their ads. Have you seen the ad campaigns for the “Whopper Virgin” or the “Subservient Chicken“? These were both great and I found out about both of them through social networks or emails that friends sent me telling me to check these out.
This latest ad campaign from Burger King though is really a stroke of genius and the fact that they hooked into Facebook not as an ad but as an app is simply a stroke of genius. If you are familiar with Facebook than you are aware of these little apps they have to “poke” “throw a pie” “send a drink” or any of the other app that have become popular there.
The new Burger King app is called the Whopper Sacrifice and the basic premise is that you can get a Free Whopper coupon all you have to do is sacrifice 10 of your friends. The best part of the app is that it will show up on your wall and feed as “Joe Smith sacrificed John Doe for a free whopper!” I just think that is perfect how it has a certain level of interactiveness and humor as it plays up to everyone’s obsession with social networking and getting a lot of “web friends”.
This to me is a great example of online advertising that is not only clever and viral in nature but also probably a lot cheaper than plastering banners and links all over the place. Do you know of another example of an ad that was clever, viral and cheaper in nature?

It is a Storm Trooper from Star Wars, good eye! Better to have two accounts then you can get two free whoppers!
Oddly, I do have Facebook and everyone in my social owns an account or two.
Very WISE viral marketing.
Btw, The king in this picture looks like one of J-dai troops from Starwars.
