As the bad news continues to roll in for the economy the advertising world continues to feel the pain of all markets across the board thus bringing on what looks to be the worst decline in the ad business since 2001. In 2001 the nation ad business dropped like a rock after the 9/11 attacks. Since then advertising business has been good up until this year and it looks to be down possibly through to 2010 as more economic indicators are pointing to a slow 2009 as well.
So instead of focusing on all the negative stuff because I am sure we have all pretty much reached our limit on all the downer news. I think we all get it don’t we? The economy is in a recession it’s time to save our money cut corners and hang on to the jobs that we have. Anyway I did see some good news with regards to advertising and of course it comes from the big advertising giant on the block known as Google.
No surprise there is there? Google still making moves and deals to expand their advertising and marketing empire. Google announced a deal with the Hallmark Channel and the Hallmark Movie channel to work with the Google TV ads program. The program promises to revolutionize the way advertising is done on network television as just like their AdWords program advertisers will get access to targeting tools and an auction based pricing system. Also advertisers will get an immediate 24 hour return on their ads effectiveness so that advertisers can
make quick adjustments in real time to their advertising budget.
Hallmark is not the first major network to jump on board with Google TV either. They also have deals with almost 100 networks via the dish network as well as deals with the SciFi, CNBC, MSNBC, Sleuth and Chiller channels. So make no mistake that the Google TV ads program is on the rise and just maybe the wave of the future for advertising on TV. What are your thoughts on the future of advertising? Will the Google way of working advertising be as successful with TV as it has been on the internet?
